It started when I attended my first direct support professional training in 2015. I told myself that one day, I would also be in front of an audience sharing information they can use for their work. As a caregiver, it should be incumbent on us to continuously learn to be better equipped in providing support for the individuals under our care.
I started working as a caregiver in 2014 and I became a licensee-administrator for an adult residential facility in 2018. There would always be that yearning to be the one who conducts the class for caregivers, earning their CEUs. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, everything became virtual including continuing education unit classes. One day, I received a text message from one of the educational providers; “Ronil, I heard you wanted to teach”? I said yes and started working for M&D Quinley Professional Services, LLC on May 27, 2020.
During the last quarter of 2021, I was taking my First Aid, CPR class at the American Red Cross and it occurred to me that I can also teach this class. I inquired, registered, finished my online course, attended the in-person skills portion, and was certified as a First Aid, CPR, and AED Instructor for the American Red Cross. I became a licensed training provider for the same on March 24, 2022.
I will be having my first scheduled First Aid and CPR class on April 8, 2022; I hope I would be able to share the knowledge that I learned with caregivers and/or with laymen who want to learn how to help and save lives and that they also enjoy learning as much as I do.
